Path of Exile Item Upgrading

The ability to upgrade items allows players to improve their weapons and gear by adding new affixes, increasing its stats base or adding additional perks. To upgrade items, the player must have the item in their inventory, and also access the kiln.

Items with weak bases, such as rings, can be upgraded into a stronger base. Items with bases that are strong, such as eth Titans have little change in their stats.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components are items that can be incorporated into weapons, armor, trinkets and gathering tools, giving an attribute bonus or extra effect while the equipment is used. They can be bought from vendors, gathered in loot, thrown away by enemies, or obtained as rewards from missions or chests. Some upgrades have additional cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be above a certain point before they are upgraded.

To upgrade an item of armor, the user must select it and then click the Upgrade button on the toolbar. The preview will appear on the right side of the screen showing what the expected upgrade statistics will be, as well as the component or material needed for the upgrade to take place.

There are three types: universal upgrades (which include gems) prefix upgrades and suffix upgrade components.
