Robots that vacuum and clean provide the convenience of cleaning both dry and wet messes in one go without the need to switch devices. They can also reduce space when compared to two separate units, particularly in smaller living spaces.

In contrast to the model of last year this one has an agitator that doubles in its mopping pad which significantly enhances its carpet cleaning capabilities. The S8 Pro Ultra has an improved suction capacity that allows it to pick up smaller hairs as well as other debris other robotic cleaners may miss.

This Roborock model, just like the other two I tested, has infrared and reactive 3D obstacle avoidance technology that helps it avoid obstacles such as furniture, walls and other obstacles. The only issue I have found with this model is that the VibraRise mop pad mount is not removable. While you can swap out the mopping cloth (if it's required), it's a pain to take off the mount to wash manually. I've noticed that any plush carpet the robot crosses will come into contact with the rough Velcro-like fastener system on the mount, and that could cause scratches.

The S8 Pro Ultra is equipped with a range of intelligent features, including support for Google Home and Amazon Alexa. You can configure and manage these via the Roborock app that is also the home of its maps and advanced mopping settings. The app also allows you to schedule cleanings, monitor battery life and component maintenance. However, you'll have to go through a few hurdles to allow voice control with this model, which is a shame considering how well it performs otherwise.

3. Dreame X40
