UPVC Replacement Door Handles

The handles on your doors get worn out over time and will need to be replaced. It is important to be able to match the dimensions of the old handles when replacing them.

The three measurements to be inspected are the top screw's location as well as the key hole and lever sizes. Use the size guide to help you.

Inline Lever/Lever

A lever/lever handle is a modern-day door handle that is designed to fit new or replacement doors. This type of door handle is available in a variety of styles & finishes. A number of manufacturers offer this type of handle, including Avocet ERA, Fullex, Hoppe, mila door handles, Millenco & Yale.

Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle

The door handles of uPVC/Composite are made of sturdy materials and are perfect for multi point lock doors that require a strong design. The handles are inline and operate from the same spindle and screw fixings, so they are easily installed on existing or new uPVC/Composite doors.

The design of the sprung lever allows the handle to be placed and angled to ensure a comfortable experience and is suitable for all users. The handle has been tested for endurance up to 200,000 cycles. This ensures that the finish is of high quality and performance will last for a long time. The lever that is sprung can be reduced to accommodate the widest range of locks. This is particularly beneficial for doors with narrower frames, in which the cylinder is further back. A shorter lever is an excellent option for doors that have latches that can be operated by a thumb turn on the inside.

Lever Pad

The lever pad upvc handle is distinct from the lever handles that are used on the majority of doors. These handle types are either operated by a single spindle or by two spindles, inline or offset. They are usually utilized on UPVC doors with double glazing window handle double glazing door handles and come in a variety of finishes & variations.

The handles have been tested to at least 200k cycles and are available in several finishes like White, Silver, Chrome & Gold. The finish is compliant with BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 and is also resistant to corrosion, giving the handle a high level of durability and performance for the intended use.

All UPVC handle lever pads include a spindle and screws and can be installed on the uPVC door. The backplate fixing centres of 211mm allow for a larger size of handle which can often be a benefit when replacing a faulty or worn multi-point door lock mechanism. These handle levers are also sprung, solving the problem of handles that slide from their horizontal position when not in use.

When selecting the replacement UPVC handle and spindle it is crucial to match the PZ dimensions of both the multipoint lock and the uPVC door. This measurement is also called 'handle centre or cylinder centre'. It is important for matching the correct handles.

After you have determined the correct PZ size, you will need to ensure that the push and lever pads are shaped to fit the American with Disabilities Act compliant handles you require for your door. These are typically of a round or square shape, with an internal lever and external push pad.

This means they will return to a horizontal position after they are not in use, rather than hanging and possibly sticking in the frame. This keeps draughts out of the home. You will also find that the majority of the UPVC handle lever pad style handles are handed, allowing you to install them on either side of the door.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks are found on uPVC and other kinds of doors. The cylinder lock is operated by a key which unlocks the cylinder case. This reveals pins that can be aligned with those inside the lock, allowing them to turn the revolving camera, thereby opening the door. Euro cylinders can be fitted with up to six pins with external and internal doors typically needing different levels of security.

Selecting the right cylinder for your needs is essential; it is contingent on how your doors and handle are utilized. For instance, exterior doors must be secured with a higher security cylinder, whilst internal doors can be secured using the standard cylinder. Certain cylinders come with extra features that increase security, such as anti-drill or anti bump properties.

A euro cylinder must be measured accurately to ensure it is the correct size for your door. The cylinder should be measured from the central fixing screw hole to the end of the cylinder, including the thumb turn if you have one. It is recommended to do this with the lock in place, but if this is not possible, you can remove it to take measurements. A cylinder that extends beyond the handle and escutcheon may be vulnerable to attacks such as snapping locks, therefore it is crucial that it is not too long.

The design of most newer cylinders includes anti-drilling and bump resistance features. They are designed to decrease attack chances by forcing the cylinders to turn in a different direction. This will help to deflect an attack and keep your door safe.

Some cylinders are designed to withstand snapping. This is a more frequent type of attack on cylinders, which is where the break line of the lock is attacked with a special tool to break off the front of the cylinder and allow the door to open. This is faster and easier to achieve than gaining access through multipoint locks and leaves little evidence of a break-in, which could hinder an insurance claim.

Spring Cassette

This spring cassette sits inside the base of the door handle backplate providing a sprung solution that returns the multipoint lock handles back to their original position after using. These handles used to have no spring, and would slide when the locking window handles mechanism was disengaged. This component is the best solution to fix this problem. It also prevents your door from getting stuck in either the open or closed position, as they are difficult to close manually.

These spring cassettes are specially made for use with sprung multipoint locks but they won't work with non-sprung multipoint handles. You must have a custom hole cut into your backplate to allow these to fit (please check the image for a technical diagram). These cassettes are a solution for damaged or missing cassettes that are in the backplate of uPVC door handles. They have an elongated square that accommodates an 8mm spindle and are sold as a set.

These spring cassettes offer an excellent value solution to the problem of door handles that are sagging. They are simple to put in and will extend the life span of your uPVC doors.
