Item upgrading allows players to enhance their weapons and gear by adding new affixes that boost the base stats of the item or giving additional benefits. To upgrade items, the player must have the item in their inventory and have access to the kiln.

Usually objects that have weak bases (like rings) can be upgraded to a stronger base, while objects with strong bases, such as eth titans aren't affected much in their stats after being upgraded.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components can be slotted into trinkets, armor, weapons and gathering tools, giving an added bonus or impact when the equipment is being used. They can be bought from vendors, or found in loot, thrown away by enemies, or obtained as a reward from missions or chests. Certain upgrades come with additional cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be at a specific level to upgrade.

To upgrade the quality of a weapon, armor or other item in the game, the player will need to select it and then click the Upgrade button on the toolbar. This will show a preview on the right side of the screen that shows what the expected upgrade statistics will be, as well as the necessary element or material required to make that happen.

There are three types of upgrade components: universal upgrades, prefix upgrades, and suffix upgrades. Universal upgrades, which are made up of gems, can be put in any kind of equipment and offer less bonuses than upgrade components that are restricted to a specific type. Infusions are only placed in ascended gear or legendary equipment are similar to jewels but have higher bonuses and cannot be used in any other type of equipment. Suffix upgrades can be added to gathering tools. They will add the suffix at the end of item names. For example adding a Glyph could transform a Staff wrapping of Minor Vigor a Canthan staff wrapping of Minor Vigor.

If a player upgrades a gathering tool and replaces the glyphs by a different one the old one will be returned to their inventory. If you replace another upgrade component the item will be destroyed, with the exception for the inscriptions, which can be freely swapped.

Leveling

The upgrade system in Path of Exile has some significant changes from the previous versions. Gear is now classified into tracks, and each item can be upgraded a certain number of times before it is "leveled out." The cost for upgrades increases with each level up however the materials required don't increase as much. This allows players to focus their efforts on a few items and maximize the effect of those items, instead of dispersing upgrade costs across multiple pieces.

This will allow the item to receive upgraded components and a greater chance of success. This bonus is referred to as the Artisan's Energy and it resets to 0 in the event of failure, or increases when the upgrade is successful.

Once a piece is upgraded to the maximum level, it can receive affixes to boost its attributes. The amount of affixes available will depend on the item's class. For example an uncommon or exclusive weapon with a standard base will only have two affixes. A legend armor will have eight affixes.

Each upgrade process requires a specific number of Flightstones or Crests, depending on whether the Best item upgrade is at its current level and in what slot it is in. Typically, weapons require more Flightstones to upgrade than other types of equipment.

If an item doesn't attain its maximum level, the NPC gives the player the choice to transfer it to a different character and re-infuse the item with a different set of upgrades. This process takes up to two hours and costs the same amount of materials but will result in lower chances of success.

To measure the height of a structure engineers utilize an instrument to compare the measurement against a known reference point like a benchmark, or the ground's elevation. This is referred to as a "level-loop." It involves taking readings with the level, backsighting rod and then turning the level to take the foresighting rod reading. This method ensures that the buildings are constructed with an extremely high degree of precision and security.

Rerolling

Rerolling is the process of changing an item's upgrade components. It is a very important aspect of the game that can boost an item's damage, strength or other attributes. This can be done via the item menu or by pressing the Reroll button of an upgraded Best item upgrader. Rerolling items can be costly and should be handled with care.

Reroll tokens are obtained by recycling upgraded items. These tokens can then be used to upgrade the original item, or to upgrade item another similar item. Recyclable items have a gauge that shows the degree of upgrade. The rarity and cost of upgrading an item will determine the level of filling.

Prior to this, some upgrade items were given priority affixes which made them easier to roll. This meant that you'd get the stats that mattered most to your build often than other. This included stats such as the armor's total armour, thorns and the control impaired duration stats or the weapons' bonus attack speed and crit strike chance.

This changed with the recent patch. Priority affixes have been removed and all upgrades will have the same chance of rolling for each stat. This could be good or bad, based on what you're looking for and want from your equipment.

Each upgraded item may have a unique bonus that increases the item level upgrade's power by a set percentage or flat value. These bonuses are added to the normal affixes. The more you improve an item, the better your chance of getting the bonus of your choice.

The game also comes with number sets that grant the player a bonus if three or four upgraded items from the set are installed on an item. This is a great method of giving a character a lot more power without spending a lot of money.

Many players opt to reroll their gear and weapons, especially in the beginning of the game. This is because rerolling could provide a much faster path to a powerful character which allows them to achieve higher levels and advance in the game faster.

Sets

Sets are collections that can be arranged in different ways. They could be of various dimensions, have no elements, or only contain a single element. They can be used to organize data or separating information. They can also be used to analyze patterns. Sets can be classified in various ways in terms of size and shape.

The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom provides a wide range of set items that can be upgraded. Certain items are worth upgrading and others aren't. Sets of armor that offer high defense or set bonuses are typically worth upgrading. However, weapon upgrades often do not improve the item's stats much in comparison to their counterparts in purple. This makes them less attractive to upgrade if your collection of weapons and armor pieces is already extensive.

Set items can be upgraded to include specific functions that are beneficial for specific builds. This is evident in Aldur's Advance Boots and Guillaume's Face. Both were upgraded from Exceptional Winged Helm and Exceptional Mirrored Boots respectively, increasing their defense by 217 to 321 (Strength requirement and Level requirement increased as well).

Upgrades can also be done to bring certain items up to the level of the different tiers. For instance, the Immortal King set has a large level range, from 29 to 76. Upgrading lower-level set items can increase their defense and make them more competitive in terms of damage.

To determine if an item is worth upgrading, players should click the Upgrade button in the screen for their character. The attributes of the item will be displayed together with any required items. To upgrade the No-mouth face for instance, 1.1K Scrap Materials will be required, along with 250 Enchanted Dust and 5 Glowing Shards. Players can also look up the upgrade requirements for specific items at the Cyrodiil Golden vendor or Leaderboard.

In general, armor and weapons have a higher trade value when they are updated. Particularly for weapons with spell/weapon damage glyphs upgrading them to gold is recommended as it will provide a significant improvement in their stats. This will also boost the defense of armor that has an updated look.
