WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades can give you boost in certain stats. Each upgrade increases item level by +3. A random extra substat is also boosted alongside each upgrade.

Upgraded gear generally sees more value in trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or very high stat variance (like Eth titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as important for those with lower requirements due to the requirement to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be made on any type of armor or weapons. The item used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to Enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader every couple of weeks to ensure that your equipment is up to date.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the item however, they are always cheaper than buying new gear. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item upgrader kit will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapon, armor, tool and accessory upgrades. They can be bought by players from NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will show the item upgrader mod's next level of upgrade, if there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot for the item level upgrade and the current item level. For instance weapons cost more than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of Flightstones or crests that are used. After an item has been upgraded to a certain level it is able to be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currency types.

Many locations offer item level upgrade upgraders which include the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and a chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases depending on the amount of items being upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete some specific achievements or quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no upgrader for items available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are only accessible through a variety means. This is both a benefit as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been modified a bit, and some new features added. Once the player has upgraded to a specific level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will cost less. This applies regardless of whether the items are from another set of equipment.

The amount of Valorstones required to upgrade is reduced and the discount is affixed to all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players reach certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

Players have several options for upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to all players for upgrading. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item upgrades level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1 and are available in 4 ranks.

The first thing to remember is that the crests can only be purchased for gear of a certain rank. Each rank comes with a different upgrade path. The simplest and simplest upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade requires up to 20 crests, depending on the kind of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by completing content of the appropriate level, whether that means walking around and doing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons of any difficulty for higher-tier items or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. The crests can then be exchanged with an item upgrader, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and pathways.

Using these new currencies isn't too difficult, but the system introduces some modifications to the upgrade process. When a piece reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it no longer requires Flightstones. This change lets players upgrade their equipment to the highest possible level on all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests with care, since they have only one purpose. For instance it's a good idea use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the top equipment available, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan to create. This is particularly true for items like rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character which will only be able to take advantage of the account-wide discount if all of the slots are filled with top-quality equipment.
