1. IRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The i3+ EVO and its sibling, the i3 EVO, are identical robots that differ only in that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. That makes the i3+ a good option for those looking for a hands-off, fully automated cleaning experience but don't mind manually emptying their robot's dustbin when it fills up.

Both robots excel at picking up surface debris off carpets and hard floors, and they're very adept at maneuvering around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates smart maps of your home to assist the i3+ to navigate and clean efficiently. The i3+ does not feature obstacle avoidance features like the i7+ or any other top-rated robots we have tested. It may get stuck on power cords and socks and have difficulty navigating between surfaces, such as carpet and hardwood.

iRobot recommends clearing areas that the i3+ EVO will vacuum prior to when you use it, which includes putting away any toys or clutter it might encounter. It is also recommended to keep the dustbin and filter clear to avoid getting blocked. When the i3+ EVO’s internal bin is empty or the battery is not fully charged, it returns to the docking station and emptys the dirt into the docking station’s external dustbin. Then it continues cleaning where it left off. The i3+ EVO's batteries last for about an hour and a half continuous use, and it takes about three hours to fully recharge.

2. iRobot i7+ Roomba

The iRobot i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line, and it comes with the latest features. It's self-charging and self-navigating. the most crucial feature of all -- it has an best auto vacuum-emptying dustbin, which eliminates one of the main sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba i7+ can keep up to 10 floor plans and their names using Imprint Smart Mapping, which allows it to identify rooms to clean them more efficiently. It also integrates with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning jobs and control your robot using voice or through the app.

In our testing the i7+ was quicker and more maneuverable than our second-placed model and the eufy RoboVac G30, and it removed large chunks of pet hair from all surface kinds including carpeting. The biggest advantage over the Eufy is the self-emptying bin, which removes major maintenance sources and reduces recurring cost.

We were also impressed by the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services which we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning routines and to move around the room, and even vacuum an area. Connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and straightforward using the iRobot Home app. Once connected to these services, we were able communicate with the i7+ using voice commands, such as "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world filled with vacuums that are cordless and feel like minivans or buses, this tiny Dyson model feels like an old-fashioned sports car. It is powerful enough to replace a stand-up vacuum in most homes, but also small enough to fit on a bookcase or coffee table.

The V10 is powered with seven cells of energy-dense Lithium-ion batteries, which produces power without fading for 60 minutes. The sophisticated whole-machine filter system is able to trap allergens and then releases fresh air into your home. Its cleaning head is specially designed and drives bristles of nylon that are stiff and deep into carpet to collect large dust and crumbs. It comes with three suction settings to meet the task at hand. It quickly switches from handheld vacuum to floor vacuum, and then back to floor.

This model has an attached dock that charges the Dyson to 100% within 3.5 hours. It also gives easy access to 2 attachments and the handheld. This is a big improvement over older Dysons models, which take a long time to charge and are difficult to store.

The V10's main drawback is its short running time. The claims of its marketing that it has up to 60 minutes of run time are a bit misleading as CR's tests show. This is a typical battery-powered vacuum's run time. This is still enough to vacuum the majority of a home that's average size however, it's not enough to clean every area (though an additional run-through often can be effective). This doesn't mean that this model doesn't have its advantages It's lighter and more mobile than the older cordless Dysons, and its vacuuming efficiency is better on low-pile carpet.

4. iRobot Roomba 694"

The 694 is a standard robot vacuum that's an excellent choice for those who don't have a lot of money to invest in an expensive robot. It was able to remove most types of debris and sizes in our tests and would often go over the same area many times to ensure an efficient clean. Its flat front side helps it reach into corners and along the edges of walls, which is a nice touch.

Its intelligent navigation system makes use of iAdapt technology to steer clear of obstacles and guide you through your home. It's not equipped with the ability to map that is found in more advanced models, including our top picks, i3+EVO and j7+ Series. This means that it can sometimes get stuck on things like phone cords or low furniture, and it often is power-depleted before returning to its original location.

The Xiaomi Mi robot sweeper is superior in many ways over the Roomba 694, as it has less parts that require regular cleaning, is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtration system, incurs lower recurring cost and has more advanced automation capabilities and is better able to navigate its own. It also has a larger dustbin and charges faster.

The sleek RoboVac X8 has a superior battery life than the Roomba 694. It also comes with physical boundaries strips and can be controlled with your smartphone's voice assistance. It is also more robust, has a more powerful motor, and performs better on low-pile and bare floors.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a well-known brand in the field of home electronics. It's no surprise that they are also among the top rated robot Vacuum manufacturers of robot vacuums and mop. Jet Bot AI+ has an advanced onboard technology that allows for navigation and obstacle avoidance.

The app offers a variety of options for customizing your robotic cleaner. This includes virtual barriers, mopping levels and behavior customizations docking frequency settings and more. The app is simple to use and understand, just like other Samsung devices.

In our tests during our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors, and cleaned up 86% of dog hair (on carpet). It didn't do very well in avoiding taller items such as cords or socks. This was disappointing. It's also a bit more expensive than the other models we tested which could be a problem for some shoppers.

The app makes it possible to steer the robot manually, if necessary. My living room rug for example is darkly colored that could cause trouble for other robots.
