There are some issues however, which hinder them from being our first option. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's also prone to become stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.

It's still a great option for those who want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and can be used while you're at work, or school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few seconds.

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also has self-emptying dustbins with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums it, something hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy models from the competition. It is one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is among the most intelligent model, with features that are cutting-edge like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic cleaner and mop mop or vacuum that scored 100% in our evaluations, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with an easy mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's still quite a noisy unit that could be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work or at night as you try to fall asleep.

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price suggests. It is a good vacuum cleaner and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with only one pad and a rotating motion which is cleaner than the majority of the robot mop cleaners that we've tried. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping which collects information about your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, plan the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritize your most filthy rooms for better performance. The app also gives access to a variety of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It features an impressive 8,000 Pascal suction and sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It's good at vacuuming, but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robotic vacuums we've tried.
