Top Rated Robot Vacuums

A robot vacuum will keep your floors tidy enough to reduce the frequency of hoovering manually. Choose a robot vacuum with good navigation, has the ability to clean stairs and corners and also has large bins that only needs to be cleaned out every now and then.

There are models that mop and charge themselves, which is a feature essential for families with pets or children. Many of the top performers in our tests offer decent obstacle-avoiding capabilities.

1. iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The i3+ EVO is similar to its sibling, the i3 EVO. They differ only in the fact that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. The i3+ is an excellent option for those looking for a a fully automated, hands-off cleaning experience, but are willing to manually empty the dust bin when it is full.

Both robots are adept at picking up surface dirt on carpets and hard floors and are able to navigate around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates smart maps of your home that assist the i3+ to navigate and clean up efficiently. The i3+ doesn't have obstacle avoidance capabilities like the i7+ or any other top-rated robots we have test. It can get stuck on power cords and socks, and may have trouble navigating between different surfaces, like rug and hardwood.

iRobot recommends you clear out areas in which the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, and include clearing out any toys or clutter it might encounter. It's also a good idea to keep the dustbin and filter clean so they do not become blocked by dirt. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is empty or the battery is low it returns to the docking station and automatically takes the dirt out of the docking station’s external dustbin. It then continues cleaning where it left off. The battery's life span is approximately an hour and a half of continuous use. It takes about three hours to charge.

2. iRobot i7+ Roomba

The iRobot i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line, and it comes with the most recent features. It's self-charging, self-navigating and -- the most important feature of all -- it has Self Vacuum-emptying bins that eliminate one of the primary sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba I7+ can make rooms more efficient maps using Imprint Smart Mapping. It also integrates with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning tasks and control your robot using voice or via the app.

In our tests the i7+ performed quicker and more maneuverable than our runner-up, the eufy RoboVac G30, and it picked up large pieces of pet hair from all surface kinds, including carpeting. The biggest advantage over the Eufy is its self-emptying bin, which eliminates major sources of maintenance and lowers the cost of recurring maintenance.

We were also impressed by the i7+’s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We utilized these services to instruct the robot vacuum reviews to start, stop, or pause cleaning sessions and also to move around the room and vacuum a particular area. The process of connecting the i7+ to these services was easy and straightforward using the iRobot Home app. When connected we were able to give the i7+ voice commands such as "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options for managing the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

This tiny Dyson model is a sports car in a sea of cordless vacuums that feel like minivans and buses. It's powerful and has features to replace a stand-up vacuum for many households and can fit in well next to a coffee table or on shelves where you can wave it around like a magic wand.

The V10 is powered by a Lithium-ion battery with 7 cells of energy, which produces power that is not fading for 60 minutes. Its sophisticated whole-machine filtration system captures allergens and expels cleaner air back into your home. Its specialized cleaning head drives bristles made of nylon that are stiff into carpet to collect large crumbs and fine dust. It comes with three suction modes to suit the task that is being completed. It quickly converts from handheld to floor vacuum, and then back to floor.

The model also comes with a dock that charges to 100% in around 3.5 hours, and gives users an easy access to two attachments as well as the wand clip. This is a major improvement over previous Dysons which require a long charge and are difficult to store.

The main drawback of the V10 is its limited run time. As CR's tests show, its claims to run up to 60 minutes are misleading. This is a standard battery-powered cordless vacuum's run time. That's still enough run time to clean most of a typical-sized home but not long enough to cover every spot (though an additional run-through often can be effective). This model has its own advantages however: it's lighter and more maneuverable than earlier Dysons cordless models and its ability to vacuum is significantly better on carpets with low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694"

One of iRobot's most adored robot vacuums, the 694 is an affordable robot vacuum model that's a good option for those who don't want to spend too much on a robot. It was able to pick up all kinds of debris and sizes during our testing and often went over the same area multiple times to ensure a thorough clean. Its flat front end helps it to reach into corners and along the edges of walls which is a nice addition.

Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate your home, but it lacks the mapping capabilities of more advanced models like our top selections and the i3+ EVO and j7+ series. As a result, it may get stuck on things like phone cords or furniture that isn't as sturdy, and frequently runs out of battery power before returning to its base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in all aspects because it has fewer parts that need regular cleaning and is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, incurs lower recurring costs, comes with more advanced automation capabilities and is more efficient in moving itself. It also has a larger dustbin, and charges more quickly.

The eufy RoboVac X8 is superior to the Roomba 694 for most expensive robot vacuum purposes, as it has a longer battery life, can change the suction power mode by hand and has physical boundary strips, and can be controlled by your smartphone's voice assistant. It's also more robust, has a more powerful motor, and can perform better on floors with bare or low-pile.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a brand you see on all sorts of home electronics, so it comes as no surprise that they're one of the most reputable robotic vacuum and mop makers. Jet Bot AI+ has a cutting-edge onboard technology for navigation and obstacle avoidance.

The app provides plenty of options to customize your robotic cleaner, including virtual barriers, mopping water levels and behavior adjustments, docking frequency settings, and much more. The app is simple to use and understand similar to other Samsung devices.

In our testing, the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors, and also handled dog hair (on carpet) quite well, clearing up 86 percent of it. It was not as successful in avoiding taller items like cords or socks. This was disappointing. It's priced higher than other models that we tested, and this could be a problem for certain shoppers.

The smart vacuum comes with an onboard camera that can be accessed via the app. You can also create a live stream from the robot's cleaning station. This feature lets you check in on your pets or children while you are away. The dustbin and the filter can be cleaned for a quick, painless clean-up. The Jet Bot AI+ also comes with a clean and tidy station that's self-emptying, which helps keep the robot's trash bin clean and optimizes suction power for each cleaning run.

6. Black & Decker Robot Vacuum

Black and Decker robots are designed specifically for hard flooring. They have a wider cleaning path and a larger dustbin that holds twice as much debris than competitors to keep the area clean for the longest time. They also have two side sweepers for cleaning robots along edges and corners. The POWERSERIES model also comes with AutoSense which adjusts the power level according to whether it's cleaning up dirt on the surface or embedded dirt. The vacuum also comes with an app that allows you to view a virtual map, control functions, and set schedules. You can also monitor the vacuum's battery status and send it back to its dock for charging at the touch of a button. The app allows you to modify the LEDs on the top of the vacuum so that you can determine where it is focused or if it's stuck.

For instance my living room rug has a darkly-colored border that has a tendency to trip up some of the other robots I've tested. However the HRV 425BL kept moving across the border without registering it as a cliff. The ability to program a daily cleaning schedule for each week is a time-saving benefit.
