The best robot hoover can vacuum and mop without needing your attention, and will leave your floors spotless. Its price is surprisingly low and high-end features (such as dirt detection) are great features.

Make sure to check your robot's brushes frequently for tangled debris and hair. Clean them as needed. Some models will also empty the onboard dustbin and deposit it in a larger bin at the base. This can reduce the amount of fine dust released into the air.

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the pricier Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They are equipped with top-of-the-line motors which can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other premium iRobot models (including the top choice) they utilize smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. The robots also feature the feature of Carpet Boost that boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests of floors with no carpet, and they are particularly adept in cleaning hair from dogs. There are some issues however, which hinder them from being our first option. One of the flaws of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well during our tests. Also, it doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of an area.

However, it's a good choice to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a iRobot Roomba and you have a bare-floored home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and you can use it while you're at work or at school. The only thing it lacks that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying dock, though. And, if you have to, you can swap the mopping pad for a dry one in seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as quick navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also has a self-emptying bin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, though it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance automatic vacuum and mop and mop utilizes sensors that help it avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time and provide cleaner and more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average in comparison to similar models.

It did a great cleaning job on various rooms and floors with various kinds of flooring, including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds, shoes and cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums it, something we've not seen on other robot auto vacuum and mop/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular look that looks much like a Roomba model than the bulky units of the competition. It's among our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also its smartest. It features advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has a simple mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a concern in the mornings before work or in the evening when you're trying to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally powerful and better-looking. If you're willing with a little more noise and some additional cost this is a capable two-in-one that should satisfy most people.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It has a range of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner like Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum, refills the water tank, and cleans and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its top competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection, though this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.

The autonomous vacuum cleaner comes with a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also has a feature called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the house based on how dirty the areas tend to be.

For larger houses it's recommended to choose a model with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one particular area of your house via the app or via voice commands. A stairway mode is useful if you have a number of furniture. Finally, a recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you'd imagine from its price. It's a pro at cleaning, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad that has an oscillating motion that is cleaner than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms for better performance. The app also provides access to many options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It can also reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It is equipped with a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that will thoroughly clean a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like adorable eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it is more likely to get caught in low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums that we have examined. It also comes with an app that is less intuitive and a small base station that does not double as a bin to empty.
