Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting

Volvo drivers are enthralled by the remote control features of their key fob. Using a smartphone app, they can lock and unlock the vehicle or start the engine and even locate it.

Place the key fob's face up on an uncluttered surface. Find the button that will release it. Place a coin in between the fob cover and the fob, and carefully pull it up.

Unlocking the Door

Volvo's remote key fobs are able to unlock the doors, tailgate and the fuel filler flap of your car with the touch of one button. They also can switch on the ignition, trigger the alarm, and operate your sunroof if equipped. With these features, you'll never have to look for your keys again or get locked out of your car again.

If you own a brand new volvo key Volvo model that we have in our dealership, then you may be unfamiliar with some of its key fob's hidden features. One of these is the manual lock/unlock button, which you can press in case the battery of your key fob fails.

To press the manual lock/unlock switch to unlock your key fob, place it with the Volvo logo side up. Find the black button that is on the outside of the key fob body and gently press it to unlock a cover that hides a manual key blade. You'll need a flathead screwdriver or coin to flip the cover counterclockwise so that the arrow is aligned with "open."

Beginning the Engine

Modern Volvo key fobs provide an ease of use and convenience that is not available with manual keys. Key fobs, like any other battery-operated device, will eventually lose its charge over time. If you notice that your key fob becomes less responsive when you press the lock or unlock button, it could be time to replace the battery.

You can enable this feature using the key fob if the vehicle comes with a dealer-installed Engine Remote Start. The vehicle will then heat or cool to the same setting it was set at while parked. It will run for up to 15 minutes.

Remove the back cover of the key fob using your fingernail. The button should be under the cover at an angle near the body's edge. You can remove it by sliding it downwards, then to the right. The cover will break loose and slide off, revealing the manual blade! If you can't find the button, look around the newly revealed manual key access for the lever or slot that is hidden.

Close the Windows

One of the hidden features on Volvo key fobs is that they allow you to lower all windows immediately with them. This is useful when trying to squeeze into tight parking spaces or simply want fresh air while driving.

To unlock the windows you need to press and hold the unlock button on your Volvo remote for four seconds. This will lower the windows as well as the sunroof if you have one. Once you're done with the car you can shut everything by pressing the lock button a second time for four seconds.

You can also use your key fob to turn on your car's panic alarm. This will emit an intense, enthralling roar that will frighten off thieves and help you get home safe after a long night out. This feature is helpful for those who live in a hazardous area or you want to safeguard your family while they're away.

Opening the Tailgate

Volvo has loaded its key fobs with a variety of useful features. These are perfect for when you're juggling groceries or helping your kids load up their sports gear after practice.

If you own the Hands-Free Liftgate with Logo Projection and Programmable Height (if equipped), then you can open it using the key fob. It is possible to open the liftgate by pressing the button and then close it by pressing the same button.

Use the key fob whenever you are ready to start the vehicle. (Don't worry if the battery dies or if your vehicle doesn't start, because it also has a mechanical key slot). This is only one of the many helpful tricks for your new Volvo.

Turning off the Alarm

Modern key fobs provide a great deal of convenience over a standard mechanical car key. However, they don't work perfectly for long, and their batteries can eventually die. You can program your key fob at home if are in a rush or don't have time to visit a shop.

Lay out your keys, batteries, and extra keys on a clean surface. Locate the small black button located at the lower left corner of the key fob. move it to the right. The cover should come loose and fall off and reveal the mechanical key blade underneath.

You can open all doors and the reargate by pressing the unlock button on the fob's keypad twice. By pressing the lock button for two seconds, you can also close the windows and Volvo Replacement Key Fob sunroof when they're equipped. Reconnect the battery, and the alarm will stop. If it doesn't, the owner's manual should include a method to reset the system.
