Both robots do well picking up surface debris on carpets and hard floors and they're excellent in moving around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software makes smart maps of your home that help the i3+ EVO navigate and clean in a way that maximizes efficiency. The i3+ isn't able to feature obstacle avoidance features like the i7+ or any other top-rated robots we have tested. It could get stuck on power cords and socks, and may have trouble navigating between different surfaces, like carpet and hardwood.

iRobot suggests that you clear areas in which the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, including getting rid of any toys or clutter it may come across. It's also recommended to keep the bin and filter clean so they do not become blocked by dirt. If the i3+'s internal bin is empty or the battery is low it returns to the docking station and automatically emptys the dirt into the docking station’s external dustbin. Then it continues cleaning from where it started. The battery's lifespan is around an hour and a half of constant usage. It takes 3 hours to fully charge.

2. Roomba by iRobot

The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line and comes with all the latest features. It's self-charging and self-navigating. But the most important feature is the self-emptying bin. This eliminates the need for regular maintenance.

The Roomba i7+ can remember up to 10 floor plans and their names using Imprint smart vacuum cleaner Mapping, an application that allows it to identify rooms to clean them more efficiently. It also works with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and it can control your robot through the app or by voice.

In our testing, the i7+ was quicker and more maneuverable than our runner-up and the eufy RoboVac G30, and it picked up large pieces of pet hair from all surfaces types, including carpeting. Its greatest advantage over the Eufy is the self-emptying bin which eliminates major sources of maintenance and reduces the cost of maintenance.

We were also impressed with the i7+’s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the robot to start, stop, or pause cleaning sessions and also to move around the room and vacuum a particular area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ with these services. We were able, once connected, to speak commands to the i7+ such as "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options to manage i7+ settings and monitoring the performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world filled with cordless vacs that feel like minivans or buses, this small Dyson model is an old-fashioned sports car. It has the power and features to replace a stand-up vacuum in the majority of households however, it can also fit nicely on the coffee table or shelves where you can wave it around like a magic wand.

The V10 is powered by a 7-cell high-energy lithium-ion battery that can provide continuous, non-fading power for 60 minutes. The sophisticated whole-machine filter system captures allergens, and then lets cleaner air into your home. The specially designed head utilizes stiff nylon bristles to penetrate into carpets and pick up large particles or fine dust. It comes with three suction modes to match the task being performed. It quickly switches from floor vac to handheld vacuum and back.

This model comes with a dock which charges the Dyson to 100% within 3.5 hours. It also gives easy access to 2 attachments as well as a handheld. This is a huge improvement over earlier Dysons, which require a lengthy charge and are difficult to store.

Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt technology to avoid obstacles and navigate your home. It's not equipped with the capabilities for mapping of more advanced models, such as our top picks, the i3+EVO and J7+ Series. It is also more durable, has a more powerful motor, and performs notably better on both bare floors and low-pile carpet, while offering a wider range of automation features.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a brand you see on all sorts of electronic gadgets for your home, so it comes as no surprise that they're one of the top rated robot vacuum robotic vacuum and mop makers. Jet Bot AI+ has the most advanced onboard technology to navigate and avoid obstacles.

The app offers a wide range of customization options for your robotic cleaner. This includes mopping levels, virtual barriers and behavior customizations, docking frequency settings and many more. The app is easy to navigate and use as are other Samsung devices.

In our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors, and cleaned up 86% of dog hair (on carpet). It didn't do very well in avoiding taller items such as cords or socks. This was disappointing. It's priced higher than other models we've tested and this could be a problem for some shoppers.

The app lets you access the onboard camera of the smart vacuum. You can also set up live streaming from the robot's area of cleaning. The app allows you to manually steer the robot, if necessary. My living room rug, for instance is darkly colored which could cause a problem for other robots.
