The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive cousin, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we have tested. They are equipped with motors that are top of the quality and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. And, like other premium iRobot models (including the top pick), they use smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans and avoid home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also come with Carpet Boost, a feature that boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on floors that were bare, and they are particularly adept at cleaning dog hair. There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our top option. For one, the Q5's navigation doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.

Still, it's very good for those who want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly unfinished home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can be used when you're at work or at school. The only thing it doesn't have that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective in mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with an auto-emptying dock, however. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that can sweep floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also has self-emptying dustbins as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best automatic vacuum cleaner robot hoover for carpets, though it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This top-performing combination vacuum and mop utilizes advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste and it will learn your home's layout over time for more efficient cleaning. You can modify the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones using the app that is well-designed. Its battery life is average when compared to similar models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when in a carpeted room which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also ideal for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete an entire home, and it did so with the battery at 66 percent left. It did a decent cleaning job on different flooring and rooms with different flooring types, including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds, and bundles of cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it vacuums. This is a feature we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competition's compact models This robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive designs in our reviews. The latest model from iRobot is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads on its own).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to a mix of modern sensors, including a restructured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

Like other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with an easy mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work, or at night when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. It's a dual-purpose automatic vacuum cleaner that's very capable however it will cost you more and create more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It has a number of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine that is similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and fills up the water tank, and washes and drys mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create the floor plan and detect obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time, though this wasn't foolproof in our tests and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its autonomous vacuum cleaner has an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to do the job. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home according to the amount of dirt they are.

If you have a larger home, it's worth selecting a robot that comes with the option of cleaning zones or spots. This allows you to tell the robot vacuum cleaner best which area of your house needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice command. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have large furniture. For busy families, a recharge function and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be very useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price suggests. It has a great vacuuming performance and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad that uses an oscillating motion that is cleaner than the other robot mop cleaners we've tested. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through a mapping run which collects information about your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, or to create the spot-cleaning. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas for better performance. The app has a range of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has strong 8000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean which will thoroughly clean an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, but it's more likely to be stuck on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums we have examined. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that can't be used as a bin for emptying.
